DigiVegas 145 - Jeannine Hebb

Jeannine Hebb, an award-winning songwriter and vocalist, has been studying, performing, writing, and rocking out since she was 11.She's appeared with jazz legends Ben Monder, Clarence Penn, James Genus, and Tim Ries, and has served as an opening act for two-time grammy nominee Tracy Bonham. Jeannine’s debut EP of original songs, “Too Late to Change Me”, was released in March of 2007. The songs, while roughly categorized as pop/rock, borrow influence from blues, jazz, R&B and soul. DigiVegas 144 - Dala

My guest this week is Sheila Carabine (left) from Dala, an acoustic duo from Toronto, Canada. These two best friends have brought their signature style of acoustic pop music to audiences across Canada. This summer you can catch Dala at a number of festivals across Canada and the USA, most notably at the 50th anniversary of the legendary Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island. In fact, Dala are the only Canadian act on the bill. Their fourth record "Everyone Is Someone" is just recently release in June. You can hear songs from it, as well as hear us talk about some of our favorite movies, on this episode of Digivegas.

It took a few weeks, but I finally got 'em on the show, Acidic, from Los Angeles. Mike, Ted and Matt sat down with me and, well... they kind of just took off and stole the show. I'll be that's what they do live too. It has been written that one simply MUST see them live (yeah, no kidding...). They "blend catchy, memorable songs, compelling vocals and power riffs that make you want to floor it if you're driving!" They just released their debut CD, Ironic Dreams a few weeks ago. DigiVegas 142 - Lisa Bianco

My guest this week is Lisa Bianco, from NYC. Her music is a blend of alternative, guitar rock, and pure punk aggression. Finding a balance between the visceral and intellectual is one of the trickiest things to pull off in music, but Lisa Bianco manages to do just that. On her new album, Post-Data, She takes on the new and constantly evolving relationship between people and a data-saturated world, searching for the personal connection that breathes life into humanity…and music.

Interesting. That same technology which saturates us with data, and in one sense disconnects us from one another, in this case helps us to connect across a continent, something we never would have been able to do without that technology/data. Hmm.. I guess it's a double-edged sword, of sorts.

DigiVegas 141 - Mury

I've been wanting to get these guys on the show for a couple years...

Hailing originally from Salt lake City, UT, Mury's music is more than your typical pop/rock-oriented "three chords and a cloud of dust" in common time. Granted, they do spend a lot of time in 4/4 and 2/4, but their instrumental stylings keep it interesting. Lyrically, their songs deal with down-to-earth topics, written in a way that easily appeals to the masses. They connect, you know? They've been touring almost constantly since their inception in early 2007, hitting almost every town in the western US at least once with their dynamic stage show.

I caught up with singer/guitarist Chris Alder as the band had a couple days off before they play The X96 Big Ass Show (with The Offspring, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Alkaline Trio, Unwritten Law, Escape The Fate, The Airborne Toxic Event, and more...) in SLC, may 29th. Good thing they were on home turf, their band van was broken down at the time.
